The\nzeroing failure check in ntfs_attr_fallocate() therefore never fired,\nso a failed zeroing operation was silently ignored: the loop kept\ngoing, the newly allocated clusters were folded into initialized_size\nand the write could succeed leaving stale on-disk data.\n\nTreat any nonzero return as an error and abort the allocation.\n\n## Affected\n\n- `linux_kernel >= 7.1, < 7.2.7`\n- `linux_kernel = 7.3`\n\n## Remediation\n\nUpgrade past the affected range:\n\n- `linux_kernel 7.2.7`","depth":"sunlit","depthScore":30,"depthScoreParts":{"impact":30.3,"likelihood":0,"exploitation":0,"ransomware":0},"changes":[{"seq":218219,"id":"CVE-2026-98137","ts":1791482211369,"field":"cvss","old":null,"new":"5.5"},{"seq":218218,"id":"CVE-2026-98137","ts":1791482211369,"field":"severity","old":"none","new":"medium"}]}
