This vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service (DoS) or system instability through an out-of-bounds memory access in video random-access memory (VRAM). The issue occurs because the driver fails to allocate an adequately sized buffer object to back the full registered device memory range. As a result, memory requests referencing pages past the initial chunk access memory outside the buffer boundaries.\n\n## Vendor advisories\n\n- **Red Hat VEX** · Moderate · updated 2026-10-24 · [vex](https://security.access.redhat.com/data/csaf/v2/vex/2026/cve-2026-98518.json)\n\n**kernel: drm/nouveau/dmem: pin VRAM for the whole registered range** — rated Moderate by Red Hat.
