This vulnerability allows a local user to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) through memory corruption. A race condition in the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) transmit timestamp handling fails to properly synchronize packet transmission and cleanup routines. By transmitting network packets configured for hardware timestamping, an attacker can trigger this race condition, causing the system to access already freed memory and crash.\n\n## Vendor advisories\n\n- **Red Hat VEX** · Moderate · updated 2026-10-20 · [vex](https://security.access.redhat.com/data/csaf/v2/vex/2026/cve-2026-98562.json)\n\n**kernel: net: libwx: fix races in Tx timestamp handling** — rated Moderate by Red Hat.
