This vulnerability can lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) or memory corruption when processing incoming network traffic under resource constraints. When the driver fails to allocate a network packet buffer, it recycles the underlying memory page without clearing its reference pointer. An attacker sending network packets during memory pressure could trigger this condition, causing the driver to reuse the recycled memory page and crash the system.\n\n## Vendor advisories\n\n- **Red Hat VEX** · Moderate · updated 2026-10-20 · [vex](https://security.access.redhat.com/data/csaf/v2/vex/2026/cve-2026-98571.json)\n\n**kernel: net: stmmac: clear stale buf->page after recycling on skb build failure** — rated Moderate by Red Hat.
