This issue may result in a denial of service (DoS) or unintended power delivery on the affected port. When a USB Type-C cable is disconnected while signaling a Fast Role Swap (FRS), the controller autonomously begins sourcing bus voltage (VBUS) power, but the role-swap sequence fails because the connection is broken. Due to improper state handling, the driver fails to trigger error recovery or reset the port, leaving power delivery active on the disconnected interface.\n\n## Vendor advisories\n\n- **Red Hat VEX** · Moderate · affected: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4 · no fix planned: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4 · updated 2026-10-23 · [vex](https://security.access.redhat.com/data/csaf/v2/vex/2026/cve-2026-98761.json)\n\n**kernel: usb: typec: tcpm: recover after failure to start the frs ams** — rated Moderate by Red Hat.
